Analysis:
a. Subject Matter: A woman is standing in a bedroom with the window curtains pinned up to expose more light.
b. Form:
  • Black and white
  • Contrast
  • Camera distance from the subject
  • Difference between positive and negative space around the subject
  • Point of view
c. Interpretation:
I think the artist is trying to show the subject's feeling of loneliness. The distance of the camera from the subject makes the viewer feel disconnected almost and it shows the emptiness of the room. The subject isn't interacting with anything, she's just standing there all alone. The high contrast also shows this loneliness. Everything in the room is pretty dark except for the subject standing in the middle of the room by the bed. The negative space seems to make the subject seem even further back in the room than she is. It gives a tunnel effect and lets the viewer focus on the woman. The point of view shows the body and facial expression. The expression is a bit depressing, but gets the message across.
